Divorce And The Holidays: When Relationships Get Frosty

December 2, 2010

My first holiday season as a newly separated mom was one of the most painful times I can remember. Hallmark commercials of intact families and couples exchanging romantic gifts of love made me best friends with tissue boxes and, yes, I looked like Rudolf.

The first few years I played Santa, single parent, it was hard not receiving any gifts myself. Then one year, because my daughters were sad that Santa didn’t love me too, I filled my own stocking and hung it with theirs. Their glee that morning was so wonderful that a new tradition was created.

So do take care of yourself...your kids will love it (and so will you!).
